While we're on the subject of surprises...

I engineered a big one for Justin this weekend.  Please note: I did not say I was the one to execute it.  In fact, I did very little... the credit goes to Mark and my dad for working 10 HOURS to get it done.

Here is the story... we're doing some work in our basement.  It's mostly finished, drywalled and carpeted, but we tore out a wall and are building a room, in addition to paint, wainscoting, etc.  ALSO, we are finishing the ceiling and putting in recessed lighting.  Correction: put in rececessed lighting... that was the surprise today.  Justin has been a little stressed lately with work, Winterfest this weekend, classes with midterms coming, and of course planning for baby (or more like thinking about planning for baby). Two weekends from now is "construction weekend" in the basement and the lighting needed to get put in before then.  Sooo I sneakily asked Mark and my dad to come "help me" do it today while Justin is out of town.  Even as I type this he doesn't know, because he won't be home until tomorrow night!

I promised Mark that I would be as helpful as Justin, since they were supposed to tackle this project together.  To my husband's credit, I didn't even come close.  Although to my credit, this was partially due to the fact that there can only be so many cooks in the kitchen.  Anyway, I did make lunch, three trips to Lowes, and drilled some holes. :)  I also helped Mark put up the first six (of twelve) casings before my dad took over.  But basically, they nailed the whole thing and I could not be more thankful for friends and family who sacrifice so much to help us!  I can't WAIT for Justin to get home!

Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure:

Mark assessing the situation.  You can see some of the casings between the joists.

This is me drilling a hole.  The drill completely twisted in my hand and got lodged between the joists.  It was quite a debacle.

Almost done... so close... just have to get the switches into the box.  It's been a LONG day!

Done!  It looks sooo great!
